Public Schools

Milledgeville values high quality public education. The Baldwin County school district offers a wide variety of educational opportunities from the state of the art Performing Arts Center to the Baldwin County Career Academy. Baldwin County Schools, a public education system for city and county residents, has four elementary schools, one middle school and a comprehensive high school. Baldwin High School is a SACS accredited, offering a college preparatory diploma program with career/technology concentrations and fine arts endorsement options for its 1,400 students. The school’s Ninth Grade Academy assists freshmen as they make the transition from middle to high school by focusing on academics within a ninth grade setting. Baldwin High offers students the opportunity to experience college-level coursework while remaining at the high school campus though Advanced Placement courses. Students may elect to participate in joint enrollment programs with the area’s postsecondary educational institutions, allowing them to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. A strong and innovative career/technology program provides opportunities for participation in industry certified programs, internships and co-ops. Like the traditional academic joint enrollment program, career tech students may earn high school and college credits though joint/dual enrollment with one of Georgia’s technical colleges. For students with strong interests in the performing and fine arts, a diploma endorsement in fine arts is available to enhance their development.

Career Academy
Baldwin College and Career Academy is one of the newest Career Academies in the state of Georgia. The career academy results from a collaborative effort between Baldwin County Schools, Central Georgia Technical College, and many community partnerships that came together to provide a resource to ensure our students are prepared to enter the 21st century workforce. December 2, 2010, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle announced the award of $3.16 million in funding for Baldwin College & Career Academy. A wide variety of career training programs are available through BCCA: Agriculture, Automotive Collision & Repair, Business & Computer Science, Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Healthcare, Navy JROTC, Law & Justice, and Marketing. Several of our programs are Industry Certified, meaning business and industry experts routinely evaluate our curriculum, equipment, and programs for rigor and relevance to ensure we are meeting the needs of local employers. Maintaining Industry Certification status is an ongoing, annual process. Baldwin College & Career Academy instructors present real-world applications and engagement that help our students become work-ready. Business and industry experts are routinely invited to BCCA as guest speakers to share relevant real world opportunities to our students as well as provide numerous other career related opportunities for academy students. The Career Academy model allows for the flexibility needed to meet the dynamic needs of our local workforce. Programs meet national and state academic standards, business and industry standards, as well as Technical College System of Georgia program standards. Many of our BCCA courses align with similar technical college courses. A number of the programs offered are dual enrollment programs with Central Georgia Technical College. Students enrolled in a dual enrollment course earn technical college and high school credit at the same time, allowing them to graduate high school with a Technical Certificate of Credit. New programs are under development that will allow BCCA to meet the needs of our local community and to further enhance the system’s ability to prepare our community’s youth for the future.
