Charles Nolan Stephens severed in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne’s 1st brigade from 1965-1967 as a medical corpsman. He was then discharged from the 82nd ND Airborne division in 1968 and returned to his home in Newark, N.J.
Nolan graduated from Rutgers University where he studied science and Afro-American studies. He held positions at the New Jersey Historical Society, which is a liaison to the black oral history society.
Dr. Stephens has worked privately as an insurance medical examiner for several years and began his studies in chiropractic at Life Chiropractic College in 1982. After graduating in 1987, he went back into insurance examining and practiced chiropractic part-time. During the mid-nineties, Nolan relocated to Milledgeville, Ga. to begin practicing chiropractic full-time.
Dr. Stephens has served as the Chairman of the Oconee Valley American Red Cross and President of Milledgeville Rotary Club. He has also served on the boards of the Milledgeville Exchange Club, Old Capital Kiwanis, Milledgeville Chamber Of Commerce, Communities in Schools, Mary Vinson Memorial Library and was a former member of the 100 Black Men of America serving as Health and Wellness Chairman.
